One on one
The one-on-one is a management activity which establishes a culture of feedback between the manager and their teams. For it to be relevant and productive, it’s essential to prepare for this meeting. This meeting must be held on a regular basis – monthly, ideally – and must not exceed 30 minutes.
Suggestions and variations
You can use other formats for your Feedback boards, for example:
- to be discussed: note here everything that must be addressed during this review (shared diary)
- to be followed up: note here the long-term actions or anything that requires a little monitoring
- personal goals: optional, if you need to monitor each person’s quarterly/annual goals
- discussed: put the cards in the ‘discussed’ category once the topic has progressed, has been completed, etc.
You can also use a continuous improvement activity such as the 4L activity which works well in the one-on-one.
It is better not to vary the formats from one month to the next to establish a routine, but if you feel they are getting tired of it, plan a new format every quarter or half-year.
